Menorca, just off the east coast of Spain is one of the more laid-back of the Balearic islands with its calm turquoise coves and cobbled winding streets, it certainly has a great deal of charm which attracts holidaymakers year after year. You can book a cheap Menorca holiday and enjoy huge savings when you travel out of season, plus it’s a little more pleasant too – April sees “just right” temperatures of the late teens, whilst the summers regularly rocket into the late 20s and 30s.
Perfect for families, being a small island, there are many secluded beaches and hidden coves to be explored; there are over 50 beaches here with the best of them lying to the south west of the island. Menorca’s two harbours: Mahon and Ciutadella are pretty white-washed towns where you can enjoy watching the boats come in whilst tucking into a fresh seafood supper!
Cala n’bosch, on the west coast, is a popular resort with families with its Marina and two wonderfully sandy beaches. The resort comes to life at night with some fabulous shows and evening entertainment. Another popular resort is Arenal d’en Castell, west of Ciutadella. Its friendly vibe and long sandy beach makes it a favorite with families. For family fun away from the beach, the Aqua Centre in Cala’n Blanes has giant slides, water tunnels and lots of other wet and wild attractions.
Some of the smaller resorts on the south coast enjoy some of the best beaches, such as Santo Thomas, Cala n Porter, Punta Prima, and Cala Galdana. If you venture further inland, you will come across glorious fields of citrus trees, olive groves and beautiful landscapes. Menorca is an understated haven for those wanting a relaxing getaway by the sea.
For shopping, visit the authentic farmer’s market every Saturday at Ciutadella, here you will find some great eateries where the local delicacy served is freshly caught lobster. Enjoy a cool cocktail whilst taking in the serene lifestyle of this glorious gem of an island.
